There Can Be Only One… Week One Results

September 7, 2009

Your top of the polls looks like this:

1. Union College (36)
Slippery Rock
Owens Community College

4. Elon (32)
Findlay
Western State

7. Grand Valley St. (30)
Minnesota St.
Minnesota-Duluth
Mount Union
Princeton
Seattle Central C.C.
Tufts

Union College survived the 3rd tiebreaker so- Union College is #1 this week and gets the weekly prize. (BTW, The tiebreakers go 1. Most correct picks in a week 2. Most points overall in the season. 3. Name drawn out of my ND hat).

One quick note… the games for week 2 will be out as soon as the AP poll is released- or shortly there after. The possibility of having the GT / Clemson game will hinge on that speed. We’ll see…

Here are the complete standings. Notice that anyone that chose Memphis did NOT send in their picks. They are noted, and any more violations will be cause of removal.

There Can Be Only One, Version 3.1

August 14, 2009

The 2009 college football season is rapidly approaching- as is the epic battle of “Subway Domer’s ‘There Can Be Only One’ College Football Pick-Em Contest.” I have 5 spots remaining to the first 5 people to email me at subwaydomer26@gmail.com with your Division 1-AA or lower team name.

I have also made a few tweaks to the contest, and wanted to post all of the rules once again to avoid future confusion by some of you.

  • Shortly after the AP poll comes out, I will e-mail the games to pick for the week.
  • The picks will also be posted here at Subway Domer for posterity. (The Subway Domer Contest Page is no longer in use. All posts will be on Subway Domer and e-mail.)
  • The games will consist of all top 10 teams, Notre Dame, and other big games. In all, there will be about 14 games a week.
  • If a top 10 team is playing a Div. 1-AA team, that game will be replaced by another game. I don’t believe in the 1-A VS. 1-AA bullshit.
  • All picks are to be e-mailed to me no later than an hour before the first played game on the list is scheduled to kickoff. This could be on a Thursday, or a Friday.
  • IMPORTANT: All e-mailed picks are to have your designated team names attached to them. If your team name is not with your picks- the consequences may be severe.
  • If you do not send your picks, I will automatically give you the home team in each contest as a mulligan. The second time- you will be out of the contest all together.
  • Once again, the scoring: Correct picks are worth 2 points. A correct pick between two top ten teams is worth 4 points. If you pick the underdog to win in any game and the underdog wins, it is worth an additional 4 points on top of the 2 or 4 points you were already rewarded.
  • The weekly prizes are officially a go. The highest point total for the week is the winner. if there is a tie, the winner will go to the player with the most correct picks. The second tie-breaker will be your overall points. The third will be a coin flip by me.
  • In the past, I had a separate web page for this contest. No more. All updates and scoring and whatever else coincides with this contest will be posted on Subway Domer. Also, once you are registered, you will be in an e-mail group and you will receive e-mail updates as well.
  • The winner (announced after the conference title games) will have his/her choice of 2 t-shirts from a large selection. The shirt selections will be posted in a day or so. Here is a link to the choices from last year. OC Domer won the Bowl Pick-Em two years in a row, and asked me to put a donation at the Grotto in lieu of a shirt each time. So you have that option as well. ( I am still working on the new shirts. If you would like to purchase a Subway Domer shirt from my store, check this link out.)

That’s really about all I have right now. Any questions can be asked on the comment section of this post, or at my e-mail. Now, a video for Trent and Tony.

There Can Be Only One…Once Again

July 16, 2009

Oh my God, I can’t wait for this 2009 College Football season to start. So with that in mind, I am posting this about a month earlier than last year. It’s time for the, “Subway Domer ‘There Can Be Only One’ College Football Pick-Em Contest.” This is the third year for this contest and it should be bigger than last year- and better.

The basic outline for the contest is the same as last year, but I have made a few small changes as well.

  • I will provide the games to pick every week. The list will include at least every top 10 team and Notre Dame. I may also put in other games as I see fit, but generally the list will contain around 14-16 games.
  • The scoring is a little bit goofy and fucked-up, but so am I. Correct picks are worth 2 points. A correct pick between two top ten teams is worth 4 points. If you pick the underdog to win in any game and the underdog wins, it is worth an additional 4 points on top of the 2 or 4 points you were already rewarded.
  • If you fail to submit picks for a cumulative total of 2 weeks, you will be considered a rouge player and kicked out of the contest.
  • You will be assigned a handle of a small school (1-AA or lower) as your username. Please include this name in your weekly e-mail of picks. If you are a veteran you should already have this name. If you don’t remember it, let me know and I will assign you one.
  • Registration is free. E-Mail me at subwaydomer26@gmail.com as your registration and include either your school from last year or a request of a school name (I’ll try to accommodate).
  • The picks must be e-mailed no later than one hour before the first kickoff of the games scheduled, so this may be as early as a Wednesday or Thursday night.
  • I am also working on a few vendors to donate some items for weekly prizes. I should have things finalized before the season starts. If you are interested in donating something from yourself, or from your place of employment please contact me.

That’s pretty much it. If you have questions, please ask them and i will answer them as best as I can. Register soon! Good Luck & GO IRISH!!!

Random Randomness, Meticulously Placed At Random

January 14, 2009

As we head full steam into the later stages of the recruiting wars, I sit here at my computer with a level 5 migraine, a pregnant wife, and bracing for a blizzard- that just doesn’t want to start. There are many, many topics to cover and I’m sure we have many, many opinions on these topics, but right now I have just a few random points to put out there. Welcome to the discussion. And if you don’t think that this post is a random thing of beauty, then what is that picture of Tom Lopienski doing on the left hand side? Hmm? That’s what I thought…

Recruiting is at a fevered pitch right now. As it stands, the Fighting Irish have 17 commitments and are ranked #18 by Scout.com in the recruiting rankings. Not exactly what we are used to, but this class has the same feel as the 2006 class. That class was ranked 5th in the team rankings and had a whopping 28 players. But, since then the 2006 class has lost 10 players due to transfers, medicals, and being a douche bag. So, as long as the 2009 class stays their 3 or 4 years, they should collectively be as good or even better than the 2006 class.

Don’t jump over the edge just yet. Weis is not done with the 2009 class by any stretch of the imagination. Along with some current offers that the staff has been actively pursuing they are looking at offering more kids as well, and have done so already. The current offer list has these recruits offered that are looking at Notre Dame and the Irish have at least a shot at gaining a commitment:

There are, of course, other prospects that Notre Dame has offered that are uncommitted, but these are the ones that they still have a shot with signing. Pollard, although a recent decommitment from the Irish, is still being heavily pursued by the Irish. It ain’t over yet, but is probably unlikely that Pollard changes his mind again- although I’ve seen weirder. The other committed prospect is Byron Moore, who most people on the inside think that his commitment to U$C is very soft. Buchanan is the most recent offer and I suspect that ND may have a couple more in mind before the end of next week. Just a hunch. I think Notre Dame will land 2 or 3 more prospects before it is all over with.

The coaching search is still quiet. No new hires have been made for any of the coaching vacancies. This is a slow and excruciating process for Irish fans, but one that has to take its course. A lot of names have been thrown out, but nothing of real substance has really been put out in front just yet. Also, there has been reports of Latina being fired, but that has been denied by the University. And when in the hell is Weis going to show Mendoza the line to the unemployment office? The Mendoza and Latina jobs ( Strength and Offensive line jobs) are probably the two that most need a change. Notre Dame passes the eye test with their lineman… until some guy that weighs 40 pounds less blasts them on their ass.

I don’t expect anything to surface too soon, but I’m not sure if that is good news or bad news. The fact remains that these staff assignments are of vital importance and if Notre Dame is going to take that next step as an improving team, these hires need to be of a first class nature. Weis knows this and I am sure he is doing all that he can to make the best possible hires from a pool of candidates that meets the criteria that both he and the administration have set out in front of them. Tenuta was a late hire last year, and I’m pretty sure that he has worked out well for the Irish- and for wildlife everywhere.

A few notes on the enemy. A mini-Link-O-Rama if you will…

Subway Domer News…

Despite pleas to my employer that National Signing Day is in all actuality a national holiday and worthy of a paid holiday, they have made no effort to pay me to stay at home to check message boards for information on the stream of Letters of Intent that will be coming over the fax machines at Notre Dame. So, it remains to be seen if I will be posting on that glorious day. If i do, I will have a Live Blog up and running for you to vent and boast.

Shortly after that beautiful holiday, I will post the Subway Domer Recruiting Spectacular: 2009. And by shortly, I mean a day or two or three after. Please take the time to check it out as I try hard not to swear. Here are the links to the 2007 & 2008 versions.

Then kids, after the Recruiting Spectacular has been out for a few days, I will post my State of Recruiting: 2009. This isn’t quite what you may think it is. You have to take it literally. Here are the links to the 2007 & 2008 versions.

This is all subject to me not dieing in this blizzard or my wife not giving birth before February 17th.

Congratulations are in order to OC Domer. That SOB won the Subway Domer Bowl Pick-Em for the 2nd year in a row. Last year he asked me to make a donation at the Grotto in lieu of the T-Shirt prize. Those regular alumni must really like not having to put the word “subway” as a prefix to their alumni status. So what’s it going to be this year OC, saint or shirt?

Pick-Em Shirts 2008

August 21, 2008

I can make all of these shirts (except the dog shirt) in XXXL and in a women’s shirt as well. I have been asked by a few people to do so and I will at your request.

I may add even more selections as the season progresses as well.
I hope this adds your desire to destroy the competition and take the coveted shirt of your liking.
These are all available at my “T-Shirts N Stuff” link on the right. So you can buy one for the season if you like.
Good Luck!!!

There Can Be Only One… Again

August 14, 2008

Holy shit! The season is quickly coming upon us and I haven’t even begun to whip up this years pick-em contest. So here we go…
