A Chat With Demetrius

September 24, 2007

While at the game Saturday, I was surprised as I looked to my left and saw former Notre Dame quarterback Demetrius Jones. I quickly went from surprise to inquisitive. I wished DJ good luck in the future and asked him a few questions. I was kind of took back at what he said and how he acted. Here is a run down of those events. Please allow me to paraphrase as I did not have a recorder or pen with me.

  • He came down to my seat which was right in front of the Vonage pre/post game booth.
  • His main concern was contacting sideline reporter Alex Flanagan (right name?)
  • He saw her on the phone and told me quite arrogantly, See that pretty lady on the phone? I bet you she’s trying to get a hold of me.
  • As the team left the field for halftime, he yelled out at a few players. Aldridge was the only one to wave at him.
  • As Weis walked by he asked me Do you think I could hit Weis’s fat head with this phone? He muttered something else as he laughed about what he just said.
  • Frustrated with not being able to contact Alex with his phone, he asked to borrow mine. Intrigued about what was going on, I let him use it and now I have her number saved… for future use.
  • Said he wished she wasn’t pregnant. That’s one fine lady.
  • When asked about his departure he stated, You saw what happened on the field. Everyone did. I mean its just a bunch of shit.
  • He was finally able to get the reporter by having an usher stop her and tell her to look up.
  • She looked surprised to see him and pointed at him to come down to talk with her.
  • He left.

I’m not sure what to make of this but he sounded like there was a LOT of hard feelings toward Weis. He did seem genuinely concerned about the team. However, it was clear to me that he wanted, or needed, even more of the spotlight on him.

Please remember this is just a paraphrasing that I put together as best I could. I am not trying to kick the kid, just relaying to you what I heard and saw.

Throwback

June 8, 2007

In case you missed the news, Notre Dame and its jersey partner Adidas, announced in a press release that the October 20th meeting versus U$C will take on a retro feel. Notre Dame will “honor” the 1977 squad by donning the green jerseys. Of course, these are the uber fabulous uniform colors that helped make Joe Montana a god.

This announcement has come with some mixed results from the Irish faithful. Most of the Domers, would like to see us “honor” the ’77 team with these colors versus the likes of Duke. Some do not want this at all and some seem O.K. with the retro day. Here is some advice from me, The Emporer of the Subway Alumni Nation… suck it up and deal with it! As it goes with a lot of things in life, this is just another detail that can not be controlled by us. So, to help the Domers out there who may be miffed or unsure about all this, here is some advice on what to do on October 20th, 2007.

  • Break out the vintage gear. Get in your closets or nearest Bargain Box/Salvation Army Store and dress to impress… all day.
  • Demand that this gas/oil crises be the same as it was in the 70’s and the same price.
  • Imagine Demetrius Jones as white, and 3rd string…and watch him save the day.
  • If you are 18-20 and in Ohio, go to a bar and demand to be served alcohol… just as you could in 1977.
  • Think of your President as a peanut farmer instead of a character in Peanuts.
  • Crank up some Freebird.
  • Enjoy the game.

This may seem a little much for some of you, but so will trying to pull off an upset with those yellow pants.

Jones Arrested. Oh Dear Kyle!

May 24, 2007

It has been reported by WSBT that Notre Dame Quarterback, Demetrius Jones, was arrested on Marijuana possession.

Notre Dame Quarterback Arrested
Demetrius Jones was picked up in LaPorte County May 17th on a marijuana possession charge. He bonded out of jail that night.
The LaPorte County prosecutor’s office says he has been charged with a misdemeanor possession charge. A university spokesman says Jones remain enrolled, and to his knowledge, is currently in good standing.
Last year, ND basketball player Kyle McAlarney was arrested for marijuana possession. He was suspended from the team and kicked out of school with the chance to return. St. Joseph County drug charges against him were dropped if he met certain conditions.
He’s supposed to be back in class this fall and could be back already.

I will not go into wild speculation about this arrest but I can guarantee you a few things…

  1. ND now has points in the Fulmer Cup.
  2. The QB race is down to 3 with less than a week to go.
  3. The Kyle McAlarney incident will have a huge effect on this matter.

Stay tuned for more.
